Black Wings: African Americans in Aviation History

Celebrate Black History Month with HistoryMiami! Since the invention of the airplane, aviation has been associated with adventure and heroism. For African Americans, however, flight opportunities were initially limited – a consequence of racial discrimination. Learn about the African Americans who broke these barriers from the early pioneers and barnstormers through the Tuskegee airmen and Shuttle astronauts in this special presentation by Von Hardesty, author of Black Wings: Courageous Stories of African Americans in Aviation and Space History. The event will be held on February 25; 3-4pm; HistoryMiami, 101 West Flagler Street. Cost: HistoryMiami members: Free; Non-members: Free with general museum admission ($8).
