The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Vol IV): The Tempest #1 (of 6)

After an epic seventeen-year journey through the entirety of human culture, Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill conclude both their legendary League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and their equally legendary comic-book careers with the series’ spectacular fourth and final volume, The Tempest. This six-issue miniseries is a celebration of everything comics were, are and could be. Opening simultaneously in the panic-stricken headquarters of British Military Intelligence, the fabled Ayesha’s lost African city of Kor and the domed citadel of ‘We’ on the devastated Earth of the year 2996, the dense and yet furiously-paced narrative hurtles like an express locomotive across the fictional globe. This is literally, and literarily, the story to end all stories. Here’s how it begins.

E. W. Farnsworth’s Al Katana, Volume I

E. W. Farnsworth’s Al Katana, Volume I, debuted from Pro Se Productions in 2017 introducing a new kind of superhero, one striking fear into the hearts of the most hardened terrorists and miscreants. The violent vigilane returns in AL KATANA II, available now in paperback, hardcover, and digital formats.

The second volume continues Ritchie Walgreen’s saga as he forges relationships and builds martial arts studios on four continents as fronts for the work he does, along with his various proteges.

Relentlessly pursued by numerous, jealous national intelligence agencies—most notably the American CIA and Israeli Mossad, the man known in urban legend as Al Katana keeps one step ahead of his adversaries while performing his self-given mission to rid the world of heinous crime and corruption.

In a bloody wake of decapitations, Al Katana expands his cadre of admiring ace investigative reporters as well as capitalists looking to make big bucks through selling Al Katana action figures, complete with their Japanese katana swords.

In the press and online the hero’s message grows, the facts and disinformation blending to make Al Katana seem superhuman. Whether legend or psychotic avenger, Al Katana believes his methods are genuinely effective in a world that has lost its soul. Yet, even though he gathers followers daily, others believe he is a monster and intend to end his reign of justified terror. Al Katana Volume II by E. W. Farnsworth. From Pro Se Productions.

The Provocative Colette

Many biographies describe this uncommon woman and author. It is her years of formation which are focused on here, from her marriage at the age of 20, until her divorce.

“One dies only from the first man,” she wrote in 1909. But this death was a new beginning, and the one that signed “Colette” from 1910 on gradually opened her eyes to her condition of a woman who was an exploited writer and a betrayed wife, and who will emancipate herself by writing, and with what talent!

Incredibly complex, powerfully determined, truly gifted, Colette challenged herself to reinvent her life and assert herself as a free woman. In her day, her behavior scandalized and vexed the establishment. But in the end, she helped to free women in their thinking and became member and then president of France’s prestigious Académie Goncourt, among many other honors as one of France’s preeminent authors. For mature readers.

The Cyberpunk Nexus: Exploring the Blade Runner Universe

In 1982, a new benchmark was set for science-fiction film with the release of Blade Runner. Based on the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by the acclaimed novelist Philip K. Dick and directed by Ridley Scott, Blade Runner was a visual and philosophical tour-de-force, set in a dystopian future in which artificially intelligent replicants, nearly indistinguishable from humans, are hunted down by police-operatives known as Blade Runners. Featuring the talents of Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Joanna Cassidy, Edward James Olmos, and Darryl Hannah, the film tackled numerous themes and birthed controversies that have been poured over by fans and critics ever since. Blade Runner has also inspired literary and comic-book spin-offs, and a cinematic sequel released in 2017.

The Cyberpunk Nexus: Exploring the Blade Runner Universe examines the entire Blade Runner saga, from the original novel to its numerous film iterations. The book features a foreword by Paul M. Sammon (Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner). Essayists include Bryce Carlson (of BOOM! Comics’ Sheep adaptation), Paul J. Salamoff, Robert Meyer Burnett, Rich Handley, Zaki Hasan, Julian Darius, and many others, with a cover by popular artist Matt Busch.

The book runs a massive 416 pages, covering every aspect of Blade Runner history.
