Wizard World Austin Review By Alex Freimark

Austin Wizard World Comic Con was the first time the entire cast of Star Trek: Next Generation was together. In fact the first thing we saw when we walked in was the command chairs from the bridge. Even before the cast arrived there were lines forming, especially for Sir Patrick Stewart whose line went around the corner and down the hall. Those who weren’t on his line were probably lined up for his noon Q&A even though it was 9am.

These reports had the opportunity to meet with Paul McGillion (Dr. Beckett from Stargate Atlantis), Vic Mignogna (voice actor: Full Metal Alchemist), and Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: TNG). They all were very nice and gave each fan full attention when it was there turn. They even shook hands, except for Mr. Wheaton who was sick, yet very friendly.

Almost everyone was in some type of costume. Everything from homemade to professional design with specialized equipment and makeup. It definitely was a place where a geek can feel welcome and among their own kind.

There was something going on from the moment the opened the doors until they closed that night. There were tables with comic book artist, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Star Wars fan clubs, Steam Punk displays, podcasters, the 501 Garrison, Ghostbusters, R2D2, K-9, and even the DeLorean from Back to the Future. Of course there were booths selling everything from vintage comic books to Steam punk customs, and weapons. At one point the longest line was for food, not the best but nobody wanted to leave.

Besides the main floor there were rooms used for Q&A as well as presentations. The one we attended was Batman and Psychology presented by Dr. Travis Langley (author of Batman and Psychology: a Dark and Stormy Knight). The presentation and Q&A were informative but not to analytical. Fortunately the author is also a comic book enthusiast calling himself a superherologist.

We would definetly recommned World World Austin for future fun, families and all around good time.
