Sea Turtle Release

December 6, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center staff will be releasing a sea turtle back into the ocean! “Peanut” is a large subadult loggerhead that was found on May 1, 2016 swimming around the cove at Peanut Island. Peanut was very skinny and very hungry, and was not feeling well. Peanut has been gradually gaining weight and getting better at Gumbo Limbo’s Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility over the last several months. Our veterinarian, Dr. Chadam, has reviewed the latest blood work and told us it’s time to send Peanut home.

Please join us on December 6 in Spanish River Park (on the beach near the central tunnel) as we release Peanut back in to ocean. The park will waive the parking fees starting at 4:00 PM, and Peanut will be released promptly at 4:30 PM. For those of you that can’t be there, we will try to broadcast live on Facebook (we’ve had mixed results in the past as our connection has not always worked beachside, but we will hope for the best). No RSVP needed for this FREE event!
